Franchise History

The early time from 1959-1964 was filled with poor decisions and bad football. Weeb Ewbank became the coach after David “Sonny” Werblin bought controlling interest in 1964. The team moved out of the Polo Grounds and began playing at Shea Stadium.

Ownership began a very patient and methodical move to improvement. In 965, the team signed Alabama quarterback Joe Namath to a $400,000 contract. This would be a move that paid dividends down the road.

The 1968 season was a success as the New York Jets went 11-3 and won the AFL championship over the Oakland Raiders. From there they won Super Bowl III by beating the Baltimore Colts 27-23.

The 1980’s saw the Jets return to the playoffs five times in 1981, 1982, 1985, 1986 and 1991.

New York Jets Betting- Looking at the Numbers

Quarterback Sam Darnold returns but he has no protection in the pocket. The lines needed to get better. Running back is sewed up for one more season with Le’Veon Bell and Joe Flacco was signed as a QB backup.
