The New York Yankees will be traveling to Dunedin, Florida, to take on the Toronto Blue Jays in their temporary stadium. This is the Blue Jays spring training home, and the Yankees are familiar with it, having played three spring training games there this year. Stay tuned to this article and read our Yankees vs Blue Jays Pick for this game.
The Yankees last season had trouble beating the Blue Jays, going 2-5 against them, including a terrible 12-7 loss that had a 10 run inning. Both teams will be looking to bring their winning percentage back up to .500.
Early in the season, New York has found themselves two games behind Boston in the American League East. The Yankees started off 3-2 then lost 3 games before bouncing back against the Rays in a 10 inning 8-4 win.
Rougned Odor, who was released by the Rangers, earned his first hit as a Yankee breaking the tie in the tenth inning against the Rays. Gio Urshela smashed a three-run home run to extend the lead even further and avoid the sweep.
The Yankees currently rank No.13 in team batting average in the MLB. New York will be facing a Blue Jays pitching staff that ranks No.6 in league with a team ERA of 3.11.
Yankees Second baseman D.J. LeMahieu leads the team with 11 hits and 17 total bases and third baseman Gio Urshela is right behind him with 10 hits and 4 RBI’s. Gerrit Cole will be starting for New York.
Cole did a great job in his second start of the season against the Orioles. He allowed only 4 hits, 0 walks, and struck out 13 in seven innings.
In his opening day performance against the Blue Jays, he only allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 5.1 innings. Against Toronto, Cole has been great with a record of 3-0 and 2.97 ERA in five starts.
The Blue Jays
Toronto started off hot this season, winning two of the three games in its opening series against New York. The Blue Jays did not take advantage of their series against Texas, losing two of the three games to arguably the worst team in the MLB.
Toronto lost its first two games to the Angels but was able to show life on Saturday with a 15-1 win. The Jays rank No. 18 in team batting average at .222. Toronto is facing a good New York pitching staff that is ranked No.3 in league with a team ERA of 2.84.
Center Fielder Randal Grichuk and designated Hitter Vlad Guerrero Jr. have both put up 11 hits and 8 RBI’s. Shortstop Bo Bichette has helped to add 10 hits to the team stats.
Pitcher Robbie Ray will make his first start of the season after having a bruised elbow from falling downstairs. He did well in spring training, going 2-1 with an ERA of 1.98 in four starts. In 13.2 inning, he allowed only 3 unearned runs.
Odds and Prediction
New York Yankees -1.5 (-124)
Toronto Blue Jays +1.5 (+104)
Over 9 Runs (-112)
Under 9 Runs (-108)
Most people would pick the Yankees to win when Gerrit Cole is pitching and they are right to do that. Cole is a top 3 pitcher in the MLB and has been dominant so far this season and has dominated the Blue Jays over the course of his career.
The Yankees bats came to life on Sunday and will be looking to bring that energy tonight. New York is looking for revenge after losing their season-opening series to Toronto. The Yankees bullpen has also been phenomenal reinforcing my pick for the Yankees to be victorious.
