On July 22, Panini released their 2020-21 Select Basketball Cards, and they are some of the most colorful and bright cards that basketball card collectors are going to find this year. However, that’s not the best thing about the Panini Select cards this year.

The best thing about the 2020-21 Panini Select cards is that collectors will once again have the chance to increase their collection of chrome. The Hobby Boxes of the 2020-21 set include three total autographs and memorabilia cards. In addition to the autograph cards, there is an average of one Prizm parallel card in each pack, and that’s where much of the color and shine come into play.

Overview of the Select Basketball Set

The base set of the 2020-21 Select is once again split into three different sections, each of which has its own unique design. The three different designs go by the names Course, Premier Level, and Courtside, with all three having their own specific design.

The most specific of the three cards is the Concourse. Each hobby pack that collectors purchases average one card from either the Premier or Courtside tiers. The Premier Level is considered to be “uncommon” with about 10 per box. Meanwhile, the Courtside cards are classified as “rare,” and there are expected to be just two of them per box.

Aside from the different designs, the Prizm parallels for each tier are slightly different, and that’s important to remember because each hobby set then features a different group of cards.

The Panini Select also features some new features, including, for the first time in basketball, retail. For the retail cards, it’s a little bit different. Collectors are used to their being base cards, and there will be exclusive Blue cards that are set to replace them. The point of this is to keep the traditional base numbers to the hobby packs and the boxes that are popular purchases.

Autographs and Inserts

While the Select line is famous for providing collectors with tones of autographs, most of the autographed cards in the 2020-21 set are pretty traditional. There are plenty of rookie signatures and rookie jersey autographs for many of the best first-year players in the NBA.

In the Flight Signatures, a consistent favorite of collectors in the Select Basketball sets is back again with a new crop of some of the game’s most historic players from the past and present. Similar to the base set, there are additional color-based parallels for all three of these cards. The Rarer Rookie Jersey Autographs cards also get an upgrade with prime swatches, which gives the cards a clean finish.

Another series of cards that is making its return in the 2020-21 Select is the Artistic Selections cards. Joining the Artistic Selections is the En Fuego series, which features a bright red ad orange finish that is reminiscent of fire. At the bottom of the card, collectors will find En Fuego printed above the player’s names and to the right of the team’s logo. The En Fuego cards got their start back in the 1990s and are finally making their move to the Panini Select series.

The final new card that collectors will find in the 2020-21 Select Series is the Unstoppable. The Unstoppable cards feature a three-dimensional image of the player with a mosaic-like finish behind the player. In addition to the mosaic finish, these cards have the word Unstoppable printed vertically on the cards on the right side of the card. Above “Unstoppable” is the team’s logo, which matches the team’s logo in the bottom left corner of the card.
