Barcelona Preview: Poor Form
Barcelona enter this match in terrible form, having yet to show what they’re capable of this season. Interestingly, the once-great Barcelona consistently underdelivered when faced with tough opposition this season, including Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Benfica.
What’s more, Barcelona have also lost against Athletic Bilbao, Granada, and Cadiz and are currently in seventh place in the LaLiga standings with a 4-3-1 record and 15 points. On a more positive note, Barcelona have won both of their last two outings – against Valencia (3-1) and Dynamo Kyiv (1-0).
One thing to take away from their win against Dynamo is that Barcelona was the dominant side, but they have only managed three shots on goal. While that proved to be enough to claim all three points, such performance won’t cut it against Real Madrid.
Real Madrid Preview: Showing Some Life
Unlike Barcelona, who have been nothing short of disappointing this season, Real Madrid are holding on well. They’re 3-1-2 across their last five, with a draw against Villarreal (0-0), losses against Sheriff Tiraspol (1-2) and Espanyol (1-2), and two wins against Mallorca (6-1), and most recently Shakhtar Donetsk (5-0).
Real Madrid’s results, namely the loss against Sheriff, don’t look promising on paper, but we have to respect their dominant win against Donetsk. While a weaker team, Real Madrid at least bounced back and should feel confident about their chances to win Sunday’s derby.
Another thing working in Real Madrid’s favor is that tier game was postponed last week, so their star players in Dani Carvajal, Eden Hazard, should be available and injury-free. Isco remains doubtful, while Gareth Bale and Dani Ceballos both remain out.
Odds & Free Betting Analysis for This Soccer Game
Real Madrid enter this match as slight favorites, at +145, with Barcelona priced at +160, and the draw at +270. However, based on what we have seen from these two teams this season, namely Barcelona, the offered odds on the visitors seem pretty big.
Although Real Madrid are not as good as they once were, it’s far easier to trust them to deliver than Barcelona, who have been struggling against top teams. Whats’ more, their recent performance against Dynamo was extremely concerned, mainly their lack of effort in the attack.
And it’s not like Barcelona fare any better in the defence, having conceded at least one goal in three of their last four outings. Barcelona have also conceded eight goals from eight LaLiga outings and four in their previous five.
As always, El Clasico will present us with an exciting game, but no matter how you look at it, Real Madrid look poised to claim their fourth consecutive head-to-head win.
