Poirier Having an Excellent Resume
Poirier has become a name that you cannot ignore in the division since he made the move over to lightweight. He started out at featherweight but did not have much success, which is also where he was knocked out by McGregor.
“The Diamond” was the third quickest fighter to reach a title, with over 20 wins. The others that did it first were Charles Oliveira and Michael Bisping, two legendary fighters in their own right. Now, Poirier is up for his 10th main event in which he headlines with a 6-3 record in those instances.
In addition to his success, you can see why that is simply with his aggressive 6.44 significant strikes each minute. When looking at averages, this ranks third all time in the division behind other fighters like Justin Gaethje, which he defeated, and T.J Grant.
McGregor Brings the Heat
McGregor also cannot be ignored, whether good or bad, in his ability to talk and win fights. His early career success showed the first fighter in history to hold two belts at the same time for two different weight classes.
“Notorious” has been fun to watch each battle in the octagon. His fighting resume shows 19 of his 22 victories have been by knockout. What is even more impressive is that 17 of those have been first round finishes.
McGregor also holds the fastest knockout victory for a title. This was back against Jose Aldo, with the fight only lasting 13 seconds.

UFC 264 Pick Main Event Winner
It is tough to count out McGregor in any situation here. Even the last meeting had McGregor as a heavy favorite in the market odds.
Poirier is not the same fighter the McGregor faced back in the featherweight days. This man has changed dramatically for the better and one has to wonder if McGregor can respond.
Poirier has defeated some of the best fighters in the division since their first meeting. McGregor has not faced nearly the same level of competition since 2016 and honestly fans should have seen the second matchup result.
This time around, McGregor has trained for the fight much better. However, Poirier is on his way up to the top of this division and has the chance to put away McGregor for good.
Poirier wins by decision, at -130
