The quarter-finals are now upon us in this amazing European Championship. There have been some amazing matchups so far, but this may be the best one yet. Belgium will be playing Italy in Munich, Germany at 3 pm on Friday, June 2nd.

Belgium vs Italy Pick | A Closer Look

Belgium was able to ride a wave of late pressure as they were able to hang on and knock out defending champions Portugal thanks to a solitary goal in a game with little to separate the pair. Neither side gave a great deal away and it took a superb strike from Thorgan Hazard to put the Belgians ahead just before the break which proved to be their only shot on target in the contest.

After beating Portugal, one of the other favorites to win the competition, Belgium are coming into this match with a lot of confidence. Despite beating Portugal, it may have come at a great cost with Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard both forced from the field with injuries that could rule them out for this game at the very least.

With their 2 star players out of this match, Romelu Lukaku will need to step up a lot and show how great he was for Inter Milan the last season and how great he is for the national team on most occasions.

In the group stages, Italy looked like the best team in the tournament not conceding a goal and scoring nine goals. But in their knockout stage win versus Austria, they produced arguably their most underwhelming performance of the tournament and they needed extra time to overcome a dogged Austrian side despite conceding their first goal of the competition.

It was the twelfth game in succession that the Italians were able to keep a clean sheet during the 90 minutes and while they could not break the deadlock during that period, goals from Federico Chiesa and Matteo Pessina put them in a strong position in extra-time.

A late effort from Austria made it a nervy finish for Italy but they were able to see the game out and they will hope that they can further boost their already impressive defense with the inclusion of Giorgio Chiellini after two games on the sidelines with a thigh injury.

Having the leadership of Chiellini back will be very good for the Italian side. With him and Bonucci at the back, it is one of the strongest defenses in the tournament and the one with the most experience as well.

Belgium vs Italy Pick

Belgium’s hopes of winning EURO 2020 suffered a blow despite seeing off reigning champions Portugal in the last 16. The Belgians lost two key men to injury in the form of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard and their participation is in doubt ahead of this clash with Italy. It was far from a vintage display from the Italians as they overcame Austria last time out but they did at least show their defensive qualities in abundance once again.

Both teams appeared to be focused on not conceding in their last two matches with their respective games producing no more than two goals during the 90 minutes and that could well be the case once again with the pair canceling one another out in a low-scoring affair.

Belgium: 1

Italy: 0
