If you’ve set aside a couple hours Wednesday night for the AEW Dynamite episode from the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. (7 p.m. EST on TBS), here are the matches and interviews that have been scheduled, along with my predictions.
BRYAN DANIELSON vs. BANDIDO: Bryan Danielson will continue his preparation for a 60-minute Iron Man main event match against AEW World Champion MJF at the March 5 Revolution pay-per-view with a match against Bandido, the former Ring of Honor world champion who is a fourth-generation Mexican luchador.
Danielson defeated Japanese star Konosuke Takeshita last week on AEW Dynamite. Danielson isn’t going to lose in the build-up to his big match against MJF. PREDICTION: Danielson will defeat Bandido.
DARBY ALLIN vs. KUSHIDA: Newly crowned TNT champion Darby Allin will defend the belt for the second time against New Japan Professional Wrestling and Impact Wrestling star and former WWE NXT cruiserweight champion Kushida, who will make his AEW debut. Kushida won a six-man match Friday at Impact’s Hard to Kill pay-per-view, but his winning streak will end on Dynamite.
Allin’s first title defense was a victory Friday over Juice Robinson on AEW Rampage. After Allin spilled Juice, Sting emerged for a post-match celebration with Allin. Allin won the TNT title Jan. 4 on Dynamite when he defeated Samoa Joe. PREDICTION: Allin will retain the title in a high-flying, spot filled match.
ORANGE CASSIDY vs. JAY LETHAL: Cult hero Orange Cassidy will defend his All-Atlantic championship against veteran Jay Lethal. PREDICTION: Cassidy gently kicks Lethal in the knees and wins.
THE YOUNG BUCKS vs. TOP FLIGHT: Fresh off winning the AEW Trios title, The Young Bucks will return to traditional tag team competition against Top Flight (siblings Darius and Dante Martin). Most of this match will be contended far above the mat. PREDICTION: The Young Bucks will win.
Starks Will Fly
JAKE HAGER vs. RICKY STARKS: I’m looking forward to this match more than any others on the card, and not because of Jake Hager’s stupid purple hat. Ricky Starks is a rising star on AEW Dynamite. The New Orleans native will continue to get a push in this match. PREDICTION: Starks will make sparks fly again.
WILLOW NIGHTINGALE vs. TONI STORM: Ditto what I said about Ricky Starks. Toni Storm, who was born in New Zealand and is married to AEW wrestler Juice Robison, is a rising star in AEW. She certainly was in the WWE, where she won the Mae Young Classic tournament in 2018 at Evolution, the WWE’s first all-female pay-per-view. PREDICTION: The storm clouds will roll in and Storm will win.
INTERVIEWS: Renee Paquette will interview Hangman Adam Page, presumably to talk about Page’s surprising win over Jon Moxley on last week’s Dynamite episode. Don’t be surprised if MJF shows up and adds his two cents to the show. Well, three cents because of his mastery on the mic.
If MJF joins the show, it probably will be during Danielson’s match with Bandido to interfere and/or berate Danielson. Or MJF will run from the ring when Danielson looks at him with an angry glare on his face. Whatever, whenever MJF appears on AEW Dynamite, it’s must watch TV.
