The Royal Rumble is just around the corner. The next edition of the WWE’s second largest pay-per-view will be held Saturday in front of more than 50,000 fans at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

The 30-man men’s Royal Rumble and 30-woman women’s Royal Rumble matches will certainly feature surprise entrants, as they always do, with every wrestler battling to be part of a title match at WrestleMania as the crowd counts down the entrance of each entrant.

The men’s Royal Rumble match will mark Cody Rhodes’ return from surgery to repair a torn right pectoral muscle that has sidelined him for nine months. The last time WWE fans saw Rhodes wrestling, he had a massive bruise on his right arm but he still defeated Seth Rollins at Hell in a Cell.

Rhodes returned to the WWE from AEW last year, beating Rollins at WrestleMania 38 in his debut, and the next night on Monday Night Raw he declared that he’s back in the WWE after six years away because he wants to win a WWE championship, something his father, the late Dusty Rhodes, never did. “Being in the ring is like oxygen, and I really need to breathe again,” Rhodes said this week on Monday Night Raw.

Dwayne Johnson, best known as “The Rock,” was rumored to be in the men’s Royal Rumble along with Rhodes, but those rumors have been dispelled over the past few weeks.

Roman vs. Kevin

Two championship matches are on the Royal Rumble card. Universal champion Roman Reigns, who has held the belt for more than two years, will be challenged by Kevin Owens, who said on Monday Night Raw this week — after surprising The Miz and sending him to the mat with a stunner — that Reigns has held the title hostage for too long. The Raw Women’s Championship will be on the line when Bianca Belair defends against the deranged Alexa Bliss.

Speaking of Bliss, her former partner in crime, Bray Wyatt, will have a lights out match vs. LA Knight. It’ll probably be lights out for Knight, who was formerly Eli Drake in Impact Wrestling and Max Dupri in the WWE.

Away from wrestling, Knight was the star of a Car Shield commercial that was released in 2021. He played a bad guy wrestler dressed as an auto mechanic who was overcharging owners of used cars. He was stopped in his tracks by Car Shield pitchman Ric Flair.

Watch on Peacock

The Royal Rumble will begin at 8 p.m. EST, 5 p.m. PST. For fans in the United Kingdom, that’s 1 a.m. Sunday. For those living in Australia, it will be noon Sunday. If you live in the U.S. and want to watch the Royal Rumble, it will be on Peacock, NBC’s streaming service, which has absorbed the WWE Network in the U.S. Peacock has three price tiers: free, premium and premium plus.

A premium subscription is needed for WWE content. The cost for a premium subscription on Peacock is $5 per month. The WWE Network used to charge $10 per month.
